The Cheltenham Fold

Sunday 11 October 2026 · 44 items · 5 min read

Cheltenham has never had a town council, and the borough council is now proposing one. The Community Governance Review's final recommendations go to full Council on Monday 19 October at 14:30; the proposal is about how local communities are represented. Before that, on Tuesday evening, Cabinet decides whether to revoke the existing smoke control areas and declare one across the whole borough. The Literature Festival runs to Sunday 18 October, and the rest of the week is below.

The week at a glance

  1. Cheltenham Literature Festival: on now, until Sunday 18 October

  2. Smoke control: revoke existing areas, declare borough-wide: Tuesday 13 October, 18:00

  3. First town council proposed for Cheltenham

  4. Pick your own pumpkins in the Cotswolds: Friday 16 October to Sunday 18 October

Weather

A mild week for mid October: Monday to Thursday reach 18 or 19 in the afternoons under grey cloud, warmer than the month usually manages. Tuesday is the wet day, light rain with a better-than-even chance of it; Wednesday is dry and still mild. Thursday is grey with a moderate breeze, Friday grey again and a few degrees down. Then the turn: Saturday clears, calm under a clear sky, five at dawn and twelve at best, and Sunday is much the same with a four-degree start. Both weekend mornings want a coat.
