The Cheltenham Fold

Sunday 1 November 2026 · 37 items · 5 min read

The week's change is on paper. The Government says it is 'minded to' confirm a single unitary authority for Gloucestershire, with that decision due before Christmas. Separately, the county council leader is 'deeply angry and frustrated' that Gloucestershire was left out of the latest devolution deals. Closer to the ground, Bonfire Night falls on Thursday: Dunkertons has a low-noise display on Tuesday with no loud bangs, Gordon League is in Gloucester on Thursday, and the longer list of displays sits further down, alongside Heathers at the Everyman and Brian Cox at the Centaur.

Weather

A dry week, which is the main thing to say about it: no day gets beyond a slim chance of rain, and the light breeze drops to calm from Friday. The turn comes at the weekend. Friday dips, and Saturday starts at 2°C, cold enough for a frosted windscreen and a scraper, before climbing to a normal 10 in the afternoon; gloves and a hat for anything early, and a proper coat after dark. Sunday is much the same, a touch milder first thing.
